Byzantine religion
Byzantines Religion varied from age to age. Its religion was very rich, and they based their architecture on it. They carved out religious characters on their buildings and made statues out of them in the city. They built Beautiful churches like the Hagia Sophia. Hagia Sophia is one of the world's most beautiful and valued churches. It is a monument that was born out of riots and uprisings.
Although Byzantine had other religions, Christianity was its official religion. They made religious icons of Christ and other saint characters. They also constructed their buildings to have carvings of christ or mary, for example the Hagia Sophia. Byzantium also had Christian emperors, like Theodosius who established Christianity in the empire. The first
Christian emperor in Byzantine was Constantine, the city was then named Constantinople, after Constantine.
Byzantines second most popular religion was paganism. They built pagan temples, and carved out pagan symbols in the buildings. They made icons and tiles in rooms to represent the religious figures. Even though there were more Christian rulers rather than Pagan, there were a few pagan rulers. Istanbul is now Byzantine and their religion is Islam. Many things changed there over the years.
