Byzantine Culture
The Byzantine Empire’s culture was amusing. There were many holidays, events, food, art and music. The Imperial Palace was a metropolis of spices and exotic recipes, the guests would be entertained with fruits, cakes and syrupy sweetmeats, however the core diet of ordinary people consisted of bread, vegetables, and cereals prepared in various ways. Salad was also a very popular alternative. The Byzantines also produced a selection of cheeses, such as anthotiro and many more.
Many nations and states were influenced by Byzantine Art, such as Bulgaria, Serbia, and the Rus. Byzantine art included icon painting and church architectures mainly. Byzantine music was also varied. Originally Byzantine music consisted of songs and hymns composed to Greek texts used for courtly ceremonials, during festivals or generally any special event/occasion.
Education was also a very strong point, back then there were universities, which was a form of higher education, provided by private teachers, professional groups, and state-appointed teachers.
